Butch Charles And Dr. Rick Wright Share Their Memories Of Jim Martin

Last week we lost someone who I regard as one of the pioneers of black radio in Syracuse. Jim Martin. Jim provided entertainment to the black community with his long running radio show The Black Experience. In an era when it was rare to here music by black artists, The Black Experience was devoted to bring this music to the Syracuse community. But, The Black Experience didn't stop there. Jim would also have guests who talked about issues that concern the community. His show was a template for other black radio shows and stations to follow. Jim was also a great proponent of education spending 30 years on the faculty of Onondaga Community College. No matter if you knew him as a radio pioneer or a proponent of education, Jim Martin will be missed.
